Okay, so here we go. Baby Ruth vs. Payday.
Some, actually many, might think that a Baby Ruth is simply a chocolate covered Payday. They would be wrong. Very wrong. That would be the Payday Avalanche.
First of all a Baby Ruth has peanuts, caramel and chocolate flavored nougat while a Payday is made with simply peanuts and caramel.
This might not sound like a big difference but it is. If you care, it is.
A Baby Ruth is more like a Snickers than a Payday. It has quite a comparable ration of peanuts, caramel and nougat, but the consistencies do differ. Although the tastes are very different, Snickers being far superior, they are more suited to be compared than that of a Baby Ruth to a Payday.
The caramel in a Payday is sandy. The texture reminds me of a Bordeaux chocolate from See's candy. Gritty, in the most appetizing sense. It is sugary, sweet caramel covered with loads of very salty peanuts. Much saltier and more abundant than the peanuts in a Baby Ruth. I love that salty-sweet thing!! I've definitely gotten to the place in my life where I want a nice amount of salt in my desserts. I wanna taste it!
Not only are the peanuts saltier, there are more, so many more!!
Baby Ruth = very sweet with a little crunch
Payday = extremely crunchy and salty with a little sweet
This was a day in which I was in desperate need of some chocolate , so I picked the Baby Ruth, but that in no way shows my alliance. I love them equally as I do all candy bars. According to my needs at the time :)

A Salute To My Momentary Favorite - The Three Musketeers
Okay, so I know you're probably like, what?! Your name is Anita Cookie. Shouldn't you be writing about cookies?? Well, the truth is I do love cookies. I love cake, and pie, and tarts, and freakin' bacon cheeseburgers for that matter, but there is nothing like my love for candy bars. There are so many different kinds, combos, and flavors. There are retro candy bars, candy bars of the future, and candy bars that are just plain good. My momentary favorite, as it says in the title, is 3 Musketeers.
Actually, it's a very simple bar for me to start with. I'm usually very drawn to the like everything but the kitchen sink kinda desserts, but there's just something about simple. I've been drawn to it lately.
Mmmmm... 3 Musketeers.
A light, I'd venture to say perfectly sweet, coating of Mars milk chocolate. Just the right amount, covering a lovely pillow of chocolaty nougat love. Ahhh, nougat, let's get the ball rolling on that age old nougat discussion! Bet you didn't know there was one, huh?? So versatile but always yummy. It shows up hard in Toblerone, super dense in Baby Ruth, and chewy, of course, in a Charleston Chew. But when nougat come to the party in this sugary situation, it's light, soft, fluffy, and totally toothy. I love how it's so airy it practically pops on your tongue, but at the same time still so rich. Now richer chocolate taste? I dunno, tastes the same to me, but that's not a bad thing! I have always, and will always love me some 3 Musketeers bars.
I like to nibble the chocolate coating off and then let the nougat melt in my mouth. I love how it gets all stuck in my teeth for a second before it completely dissipates, leaving only the lingering taste of chocolate
Stay tuned for my thoughts on Crunchy, and Lion bars. Yummy!
